Bill was formerly Chief Executive of Western Isles Council. His earlier career was in academia and the Civil Service. He was leader of the Government Budget Review Group in 2007 (‘The Howat Report’) and is currently advising the Local Government and Regeneration Committee of the Scottish Parliament. Bill is President and former Chair of Volunteer Development Scotland. He is a member and former Chair of the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives and President of Volunteer Development Scotland Ltd.
Professor Juliet Cheetham OBE
Juliet has had a career in social work and has worked in probation and after-care and mental health services. Juliet taught at Oxford University and spent some years as a researcher. She had a special interest in immigration and in social work with minorities. Juliet set up the Social Work Research Centre at Stirling University to undertake evaluation of the effectiveness of social work services. She was Social Work Commissioner with the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland and now works for the Social Work Inspection Agency, as well as being a General Member for the Mental Health Tribunals.
Alison is Occupational Manager for Royal Edinburgh Associated Services and Edinburgh Community Partnership. She has worked in the field of mental health since 1985. In 1990 Alison became Head Occupational Therapist for In-Patient Rehabilitation Services, a role that expanded to include specialist services, acute psychiatry, older people, children and adolescent mental health, physical disabilities and, in particular vocational rehabilitation.
Colin has extensive high-level business experience, having held posts as Managing Director of EDI, The Edinburgh Waterfront and Parc Life, all of which were development companies set up and controlled by the City of Edinburgh Council. Colin is also a farmer. He has a particular interest in the development of alternative energy sources and especially, micro-generation. Colin is Chair of Forth Sector’s Project Committee, which oversees the new development.
After attaining a degree in Computer Science and Engineering, Ian worked in a range of businesses, most recently with telecommunications providers based on a proprietary platform technology. Ian is a Saltire Fellow and covered all aspects of business including leadership, entrepreneurship, marketing, sales, innovation management, and accounting. He worked with Sun Microsystems in Silicon Valley in California. Ian is currently in a marketing role with Scottish technology company ATEEDA.
Roy Durie, FRICS
Roy Durie has had a long career specialising in the sale and valuation of public property. He also has extensive experience in the valuation, sale and relocation of industrial properties. A Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and a member of the British Institute for Management, Roy has worked for the Ministry of Defence and other clients in the public property sector. He is also an Arbiter/Independent Expert for RCIS.
